R28 Power Lead
A 12" long wire with the mating Somfy R28/ST28 connector for the motor. You provide your own power supply and make your own connection. This motor requires 12VDC 1Amp (Nominal). The amount of current draw varies with the size of shade.

External Lithium-ion Battery Pack
Somfy 9021217 12VDC 2600mAh rechargeable external li-ion battery pack with 5 year warranty with mounting clips that is typically mounted behind the shade.

External Lithium-ion Battery Pack with Charger
Same as above but includes Somfy 9025166 Charger with an 81" Lead.

Power Supply Terminated from 1 to 10 feet
We supply our 12VD150W power supply which is a small white 12VDC 1.5A power supply that is terminated with the connector for the Somfy R28 motor. We offer this power supply terminated in lengths from 1 to 10 feet.

The Somfy R28/RU28/ST28 shade motors are designed to be powered 12VDC. This can be done with a DC power supply or battery pack. Not offered directly with these shades but, Somfy does have a Solar Rechargeable Battery Pack option for those that have good sun exposure.

One common question is "How long will the battery pack last?". The 9021217 external li-ion battery pack carries a 5 year warranty. With normal use the battery pack is only expected to require recharging 1 or 2 times a year depending on size of shade and usage. The shade height and usage affect the life of the batteries more so than weight. Tall shades will drain batteries faster than a shade of equal weight that is shorter.

We also have Power Supplies for larger Installations where the shade would be remotely powered.

RTS is a Somfy RF communication protocol that allows control of the shades without line of sight. The typical range of a RTS control is 60 feet so you can control living room shades from remote locations like the bedroom.

Each channel of a RTS control can be used for either group or individual control. All motors on the same RTS Channel will be controlled simultaneously as a group. Each RTS channel has its own unique RF ID so multiples of the same control can be used in the same application. Each motor can memorize up to 12 RTS channels so your control options are virtually limitless.

With a brief momentary push of a button, the user to can move the shade all the way up, down or to a customer set "My" postion

Custom Cut Tube Length
As a free service we will cut the tube to a specific length to suit your needs. The tube width and fabric width are typically the same unless you have a really tall shade and want to leave a little extra room for material tracking as it rolls up on the tube.

Optional: FREE custom cut lengths cut to an accuracy of 1/16" +/- 1/32

We do not accept requests for cuts to 32nds, we do not use mm and decimals should have fractional equivalents on a tape measure.

Cut lengths can not be longer than the item length. Example: If the item length is titled as 24" or 2 Feet and you need 24 1/16", you will need to buy the next size up which should be 36" or 3 Feet.

Custom Cut Hem Bar Length
As a free service we will cut the hem bar to a specific length to suit your needs. Hem bars are typically cut to the same dimension as the tube and fabric unless you are going to seal the ends of the hem bar pocket. Sealing the ends prevents the hem bar from sliding out of the pocket. We recommend making the Hem Bar length 1" less than the tube length if you are going to seal the ends. This leaves 1/2" per side to seal the hem bar pocket.

Tip to Tip Measurement: This is the measurement used for shades mounted within a window frame or within framed constraints. This is effectively the measurement from the outside edge of the brackets in a shade system.

Maximum Width limitations are guidelines to minimize tube deflection and are not always a reflection of lifting capacity. The shade fabricator calculator below should be used to determine a system's limitations.

Note: We sell the motorized shade kits without consideration of use. Roller shade motors typically have a lifting capacity that out performs a tube's deflection. Tube deflection can cause ripples in the shade material and is based on the length of the tube and size (weight) of the shade.

Below is a generic guideline for max tube lengths based on the tube size.
   •  Shades up to 64" width - 1.25" Rollease Tube
   •  Shades up to 96" width - 1.5" Rollease Tube
   •  Shades up to 120" width - 2" Rollease Tube
   •  Shades up to 144" width - 2.5" Rollease Tube
   •  Shades up to 168" width - 3.25" Rollease Tube

Actual shade size, tube size and material should be used to determine the true limits of a system. The Shade Fabricator Calculator below will predict tube deflection (and more) based on tube size, material weight, width and height. Tube deflection is bending of the tube and causes ripples in the hanging shade material.

The use of the internal hem bar requires a material formed pocket at the bottom of the shade. The hem bar pocket is typically formed by stitching or fusing the material. Alternative methods like double stick tape and adhesives can be used with some experimentation.

The motor and end plug slide into the tube without the use of tools. The included roller shade tube features double stick tape to securely attach your roller shade material. We recommend cutting the shade material height so a minimum of 1.5" extra wraps of material is left on the shade tube when the shade is fully down. This prevents the material from directly pulling on the tape.

* Projection Distance is the distance from the mounting surface to the center of the tube. You would need to shim the brackets or use larger projection brackets if half the roll diameter is larger than the projection distance of the brackets. If you do not know what your roll diameter is you can calculate the roll diameter using the shade calculator above.

The WireFree Somfy ST28 RTS Shade Motor is a Radio Frequency based 12VDC motor that is optionally powered with an external Lithium-ion battery pack and is designed to be used with roller shades.The ST28 has improved on prior versions by adding soft stop, adjustable speed, improved sound, and a LED Low Battery indicator. The ST28 motor uses the same power connections and adapters as the R28/RU28 motor so upgrading to the new version is easy. This Somfy motor is a simple, easy to use and easy to install solution for your shade motorization needs.

Special Features - The ST28 RTS Motor uses radio frequency based controls so you don't have to point the remote at it every time you want to control it. A typical Somfy ST28 motorized shade 30" W x 60" H on a 1.5" tube uses approximately 450ma of current at 12VDC.
